Eight Indian Navy veterans have been sentenced to death in Qatar. The Indian government is shocked and exploring all legal options.

The veterans were working at Dahra Global Technologies and were arrested on August 30th, 2022. The Indian Embassy was informed days later.

The Timeline

Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed that a verdict was expected this month.

The Verdict

The charges against these eight men remain undisclosed. India's Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission met them in person and they also had legal representation in court.

The Charges

With eight former military men involved, a dubious defense firm, a late-night arrest, and a secretive trial with swift justice, speculations about espionage have been rife.

The Speculations

Qatari law states that the Emir can pardon convicts usually on Qatar's National Day (December 18th). Therefore, it seems that resolution may have to come at the highest level.
